For many years I dreamed of owning my own business. But for a long time, I just thought that surely, one of these folks I work for will recognize all this great potential in me and will set me on a path to release it. I finally came to the realization that it wasn’t going to happen that way.
So, after over 24 years in the trenches of the clerical arts, administrative and operations management, (Yes, I made this significant career change past the age of 40. Gasp!) I got lucky. You know what luck is, don’t you? Luck is where preparation meets opportunity. I had my eyes open and jumped on the opportunity when it arose and went from working in an office environment with dozens of people to working solo from home in very short order.
I am not a natural born entrepreneur or risk taker. But I learned.
You have a reason why you want to work for yourself. I had a whole list!
I know the first steps can seem overwhelming. But don’t give up.
